Art Journal Page: Creating a background

After creating the first art journal page, I decided to experiment with backgrounds. After watching hours and hours of youtube tutorials and buying basic materials….

Art Journal Flower Basket 1

I tried stencilling with gesso as well as with modelling paste. Not sure which I like better.

Background 2

I also wanted to experiment with adding dimension; hence the basket weaving created with thin strips of card stock, something I have seen on youtube. This is probably my favourite bit of this page

Background 1

I bought a PITT big brush marker to create highlights; they are recommended by just about every crafter on YouTube. Not very happy about the highlights but I have played it around with it subsequently and am finally beginning to have fun with it.

Background 3

I don’t have a quote for this one – I didn’t feel it needed it.

Supplies:

  • Acrylic paints
  • Dutch Doobadoo stencil
  • Card stock
  • Gel medium
  • Modelling paste
  • White gel pen
  • PITT brush marker
  • Flowers cut out from an old card
